Johnny Manziel tweets ‘I can’t wait to leave’ College Station

It appears Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel is losing patience with Texas A&M;.

Maybe you don’t give a freshman the Heisman Trophy on a Saturday night for the same reason you don’t give a teenager the keys to a Cadillac on a Friday night.

Maybe they’re too young to handle it. There is no doubt Texas A&M; quarterback Johnny Manziel, based on performance, deserved last year’s Heisman Trophy.

He was a brilliant two-way threat, dicing up defenses with his arm and his feet. He led the only victory over last year’s national champion, Alabama, and it was in Tuscaloosa. Manziel ended the year with more than 5,000 total yards.

Manziel, however, has had some acts of youthful indiscretion to overcome and seems empowered by the liberating and dangerous outlet powers of Twitter.

His handle is @JManziel2, verified with that all important “check.”

Manziel sent out a tweet at 1:38 a.m. on Sunday that read “Bull.... like tonight is a reason why I can’t wait to leave college station...whenever it may be.”

Manziel’s cryptic tweet had the Internet world abuzz even though he quickly deleted the post. A tweet he left standing read:

Don’t ever forget that I love A&M; with all of my heart, but please please walk a day in my shoes — Johnny Manziel (@JManziel2) June 16, 2013

Hmmm, what does it all mean? He left more than 367,000 followers to wonder.

Manziel will be eligible for the NFL draft after this, his redshirt sophomore season. It doesn’t sound as if he wants to be a redshirt junior.

Texas A&M; didn’t let Manziel talk to the media until late last season, when it became apparent the embargo would have to be lifted (for ESPN) in advance of his seemingly certain Heisman coronation.

Now, the problem seems to be keeping Manziel curtailed. It may be too late and as difficult as eating soup with a fork.

This is what happens, maybe, when you anoint people before they are emotionally ready. No one knows what it’s like to walk in Johnny Football’s shoes.

No one, either, wants Manziel to leave College Station just yet. Alabama is coming to town in early September. It could be the game of the year and everyone will be tweeting about it.
