Spring training: Angels 13, Athletics 13
Angels 13, Oakland 13
AT THE PLATE: Alberto Callaspo, batting cleanup, was three for three with a run and two runs batted in. Catcher Hank Conger had two hits, raising his spring average to .417.
ON THE MOUND: Jered Weaver, who came in having given up one run this spring, gave up three times that many on one swing in the first inning when Josh Reddick hit a three-run home run. And the afternoon went downhill from there with Weaver giving up eight runs and six hits — including three homers — in two innings. He also committed a balk. Sean Burnett fared better, facing only three batters in his inning of work, and David Carpenter had his seventh scoreless outing in eight appearances.
EXTRA BASES: Despite the two hits, it was a bad day for Conger. First came reports the Angels, concerned over Conger’s throwing this spring, are in the market for a veteran backup. Then Conger left the game in the fifth inning with a cramp in his left hand.
UP NEXT: vs. San Diego, Sunday at 1 p.m. PDT at Tempe Diablo Stadium. On the air: TV: FS West; Radio: 830.
