Chris Dufresne: Is it too early for USC to fire Lane Kiffin? [Video]
USC Coach Lane Kiffin would seem to be on the proverbial hot seat following the Trojans’ 10-7 loss to Washington State on Saturday.
Times college football beat writer Chris Dufresne discusses that notion and more in the video above.
“He was on the hot seat going into the year, everyone knew that,” Dufresne said. “The performance the other night was disastrous, but you’ve got to put it in context. [USC Athletic Director] Pat Haden just went out on a limb only a few weeks ago and put out a video in 100% support of Kiffin.
“Now, even if he doesn’t mean it, you can’t fire a guy after you put out that kind of support. So I think we’ve all just got to wait a few weeks to see where this goes.”
Dufresne adds that the scenario could quickly change should USC lose to Boston College and Utah State in the coming weeks.
“But I don’t think USC is the type of school that is going to fire a coach in the middle of the season,” he says.
Dufresne also discusses another embattled coach -- Texas’ Mack Brown -- as well as the upcoming battle between Alabama and Texas A&M.;
