Brandon Bass opts out of Lakers contract to become a free agent
Lakers forward-center Brandon Bass has decided to exercise his option and will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, his representatives said.
Bass would have earned $3.1 million next season if he had not opted out of his contract.
Bass, an 11-year veteran, would like to return to the Lakers if the team wants to bring him back, his agent said.
Bass averaged 7.2 points and 4.3 rebounds in 20.3 minutes in the 66 games he played in last season for the Lakers.
