Mariners put Logan Morrison, Blake Beavan on disabled list
The Seattle Mariners put outfielder Logan Morrison and right-handed starter Blake Beavan on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, and recalled second baseman Nick Franklin and James Jones from triple-A Tacoma.
Beavan left Tuesday’s game after four innings because of what was diagnosed as shoulder tendinitis. Making his first Mariners start this season after being recalled from Tacoma, Beavan gave up two runs in a 5-0 loss to the Texas Rangers.
Morrison, who hasn’t played since leaving Monday’s game, has a strained right hamstring. Manager Lloyd McClendon said he was concerned that Morrison could aggravate the injury during this weekend’s series at Miami. “That’s a big outfield there.”
Saunders stops bullpen session
Rangers left-hander Joe Saunders cut short a bullpen session because of pain in his left ankle.
Saunders has been on the disabled list since being hit by a line drive in his only start, April 4 at Tampa Bay. An MRI exam showed only a bone bruise.
The Rangers said Saunders had persistent pain after “he started to ramp it up” during his session Wednesday. He will try another bullpen session in a few days.
