As the sexual assault investigation of Blackhawks star Patrick Kane concludes without charges, here is a look back at other notable off-the-ice incidents in his career and details of the recent case.

Aug. 9, 2009

A 20-year-old Kane and his cousin are arrested early in the morning in his hometown of Buffalo, N.Y., after an altercation with a cabdriver. "They broke my glasses, they ripped my clothes ... all over 20 cents," the driver told the Tribune at his home, where he said he was recovering from a broken nose.

"There are going to be ups and downs in life and things like this are going to happen, but you never want it to happen again."

Patrick Kane apologizes for the cab incident at a camp for the U.S. Olympic hockey team.

Aug. 27, 2009

Kane pleads guilty to disorderly conduct, a noncriminal violation, in the cabdriver altercation and in return has all other charges dropped under a plea agreement with the Erie County, N.Y., district attorney's office.

Aug. 14, 2010

"I feel I've grown up in a respectful way. I feel like the past year or six months, I've gotten a lot better in the situations I've been through and I know how to control myself a little better."

Patrick Kane talks about his maturation process the summer after he scored the winning goal in the 2010 Stanley Cup Final.

May 10, 2012

Photos of Kane partying in Madison, Wis., surface on Deadspin.com. They show him cavorting with college students and, apparently, passed out at a bar. In one photo, Kane appears to walk while talking with a police officer.

Kane commented on the photos at the Blackhawks convention:

"I was looking for a good weekend with my friends, and things probably got a little bit out of control. From seeing the pictures to the stories, it's not fun to see, but hopefully it's something that can make me better as a person."

Aug. 6, 2015

The Buffalo News reports Kane is facing an investigation over accusations of an incident at his home near Buffalo, N.Y. It is later revealed authorities are investigating a possible sexual assault that allegedly occurred early Aug. 2.

After canceling public events, Kane hosts the Stanley Cup at a quiet barbecue for friends and family at his suburban Buffalo mansion.

Sept. 8, 2015

Grand jury proceedings are called off, raising questions about the direction of the investigation. The grand jury was scheduled to hear from Kane's accuser and a friend who was with her on the night of the alleged incident. Kane's attorney tells the Tribune on Sept. 10 that the grand jury is set to resume.

Sept. 17, 2015

Kane comments on the proceedings at the start of training camp:

"I am confident once all facts come to light I will be absolved. I cannot apologize enough for the stress this has caused my family, my team."

Sept. 23, 2015

The attorney for the woman who has accused Kane of sexual assault says the police evidence bag that once contained the accuser's rape kit was left anonymously on her mother's doorstep.

The Erie County crime lab issues a statement saying all evidence in the Kane investigation is accounted for and still in its original package.

Kane's attorney Paul Cambria says a DNA analysis in the case finds that samples taken below the accuser's waist contain a "mixture" of male profiles. None of the DNA, he says, belongs to Kane.

Sept. 24, 2015

Attorney Thomas Eoannou announces that he no longer believes the account provided by the mother of the accuser and therefore is ethically obligated to withdraw from the case.

Cambria, who holds a press conference at his home, says charges should be brought against anyone intentionally misrepresenting the bag's origins.

Sept. 25, 2015

Erie County District Attorney Frank Sedita III says at a news conference the mysterious bag that led to allegations of evidence tampering in the Kane rape investigation was an "elaborate hoax" created by the accuser's mother. A bag was given to the accuser's mother when she accompanied her daughter to a local hospital to have a rape kit done on Aug. 2. She was the last known person to have the bag, he said.

Nov. 5, 2015

After a three-month investigation, the Erie County district attorney’s office announces it will not press rape charges against Kane. The decision comes about a week after Kane’s accuser told prosecutors that she no longer wanted to pursue a criminal case against him.
