Amare Stoudemire reportedly punches glass case, could miss series

It’s a good thing Amare Stoudemire still had use of his right hand following the New York Knicks’ loss to the Miami Heat on Monday. He needed it to tweet two apologies for reportedly punching a glass fire-extinguisher case at American Airlines Arena with his left hand out of frustration.

“I am so mad at myself right now, I want to apologize to the fans and my team, not proud of my actions, headed home for a new start,” Stoudemire posted on his Twitter account.

Those actions left the New York forward with his arm in a sling, his hand heavily bandaged and his chances of playing in Game 3 of the playoff series -- and possibly more -- in serious jeopardy.

ESPNNewYork.com reports that a league source says Stoudemire is “almost certain” to miss the next game on Thursday and could possibly be done for the first-round Eastern Conference playoff series, which the Knicks already trail, two games to none.

“Amare is a huge piece of this team,” the Knicks’ Tyson Chandler said of Stoudemire, who had 18 points and seven rebounds Monday night. “And, you know, without him, it’s going to make it more difficult.”

Stoudemire did not speak after leaving the shower area of the locker room with his left hand elevated and shielded by a towel before slipping into the training room, which is off-limits to the media.

But it was pretty clear what had happened -- with drops of blood on the carpet, broken glass on the extinguisher case and Stoudemire reportedly being treated by paramedics and doctors from both teams for a laceration on the inside of his palm.

“We all have done thing out of anger that we regret. That makes us human,” Stoudemire tweeted. “Bad timing on my part. Sorry guys. This to shall pass.”
