Clippers to start Jamal Crawford over Willie Green at shooting guard
Clippers guard Jamal Crawford will start at shooting guard against the Washington Wizards on Saturday night over the struggling Willie Green.
Crawford, the Clippers’ sixth man, is third on the team in scoring at 16 points a game.
Green had been inserted into the starting lineup after J.J. Redick went down with a broken right hand and torn ligaments on the right side of his wrist.
Green, who has started seven games in place of Redick, was averaging 5.1 points, but he was shooting only 31.9% from the field and 26.7% (eight of 30) from three-point range.
The Clippers were looking for a scoring boost, and that’s why Crawford is starting for the first time this season.
“I was surprised when they told me,” said Crawford, referring to Clippers Coach Doc Rivers giving him the news at the shoot-around Saturday morning.
“I just want to do whatever I can to help the team.”
