Clippers to make do without injured J.J. Redick
With starting guard J.J. Redick expected to be sidelined for six to eight weeks with a broken bone in his right hand and torn ligaments on the side of his right wrist, the Clippers will have to make do without one of their best offensive weapons.
Willie Green started in place of Redick on Sunday against the Indiana Pacers.
But sixth-man Jamal Crawford got the bulk of the minutes at shooting guard, playing 32 minutes, 58 seconds and scoring a team-high 20 points in the Clippers’ 105-100 loss to the Pacers.
Going forward on this seven-game, 11-day trip, Clippers Coach Doc Rivers said that at times he may even use rookie Reggie Bullock at the shooting guard position in place of Redick.
It will be hard for Crawford, Green or Bullock to simulate the constant running off screens that Redick provides the Clippers, but Rivers said he’ll use the three in other ways.
Redick was fourth on the team in scoring, averaging 15.8 points per game, and he was making 46% of his shots, 35.9% of his three-pointers.
“We’ll play all kind of combinations,” Rivers said. “But clearly our early offense stuff that we’ve been really good at, it puts a big dent into that. We just have to find another way.”
