Groin injury sidelines Ducks’ Dany Heatley at least a week
Ducks left wing Dany Heatley will miss at least a week after suffering a groin injury in Sunday night’s preseason game against the Kings, the team announced Monday.
Although Ducks Coach Bruce Boudreau originally said the forward was “fine,” Heatley, 33, reported soreness upon arrival at the Honda Center on Monday morning.
“He felt a little something that wasn’t right, and we said, ‘Hey, it’s preseason.’ There’s no reason for pushing anything,” Boudreau said.
The Ducks don’t play another game until their preseason finale Saturday night against visiting San Jose.
Heatley, a two-time 50-goal scorer with Ottawa, signed a one-year, $1-million deal with Anaheim. He has contributed two goals and an assist this preseason, primarily playing alongside Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry on the first line.
Forward Kyle Palmieri, who suffered a high right-ankle sprain while training back East before camp opened, returned to skate Monday. He could play Saturday.
Meanwhile, Nicolas Kerdiles, a 20-year-old rookie from Irvine, was among 14 cuts the Ducks made in trimming their roster to 32 players.
Kerdiles, a left wing, played in two preseason games, and had three shots and no points. He was moved to minor league Norfolk (Va.).
The Ducks shifted 12 players to their Norfolk affiliate, including goalie Igor Bobkov, center Matt Bailey, forward Louis Leblanc and right wing Stefan Noesen, who was acquired in the 2013 trade that sent Bobby Ryan to Ottawa.
Left wing Nick Ritchie, Anaheim’s first-round draft pick this summer, was demoted to a lower-level affiliate in Peterborough, Canada.
The moves leave Anaheim with 17 forwards, including rookie center William Karlsson, who’s in competition with 21-year-old Rickard Rakell to center the fourth line. Rakell played 18 games with the Ducks last season.
