Robinson Cano says the Yankees didn’t give him any respect

Robinson Cano, who was introduced Thursday at a news conference making his 10-year, $240-million contract with the Seattle Mariners official, has a different definition of respect and effort than most people.

When asked if he felt the Yankees wanted him back, he said:

“Honestly, I would say no. I didn’t feel respect. I didn’t get any respect from them and I didn’t see any effort.”

The Yankees last offer to Cano was seven years, $175 million. That seems like a lot of respect and effort.

The Mariners are happy to have him, though, even at $240 million.

“He’s being paid handsomely,” Mariners General Manager Jack Zduriencik said. “But quite frankly, you can make an argument that the first part of the contract, we’re going to get a bargain. The second part of the contract, he’s a guy that we think is going to age well.”

The Yankees once thought that too -- about a guy named Alex Rodriguez.
