DeShaun Foster returning to UCLA as running backs coach; Bruins target Hank Fraley to coach offensive line
UCLA Coach Jim Mora has continued the makeover of his staff by targeting former Bruins standout DeShaun Foster to coach the running backs and Hank Fraley to coach the offensive line, acccording to a person close to the situation. The hiring of both coaches could be announced in the next few days.
Meanwhile, Bruins quarterbacks coach Marques Tuiasosopo has departed to take the same position at California after new UCLA offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch had taken over the responsibilities for coaching the Bruins quarterbacks.
Foster, who starred for the Bruins from 1998 to 2001 before going on to a six-year career in the NFL, spent last season as the running backs coach at Texas Tech. He also spent three seasons as a graduate assistant running backs coach under Kennedy Polamalu at UCLA before departing for his job with the Red Raiders.
Foster, 37, replaces Polamalu, who was dismissed as offensive coordinator and running backs coach in November.
Fraley has spent the last three seasons as the assistant offensive line coach for the Minnesota Vikings. He had previously been offensive line coach at the University of San Diego and at San Jose State after the end of his decadelong career as an NFL offensive lineman.
Fraley, 39, would replace Adrian Klemm, who was dismissed last week in the wake of a challenging season for UCLA’s offensive line, which allowed 24 sacks and contributed to a running game that averaged only 84.3 yards per game, second-worst among 128 Football Bowl Subdivision schools.
