Vegetarian and vegan travelers take heart: OpenTable on Thursday released its list of the 52 best vegetarian and vegan restaurants in America.
Fifteen are in California, which gives you new places to experience on your next weekend getaway within the state. The picks are based on more than 5 million restaurant reviews by OpenTable diners around the country plus input from experts, according to a statement.
The list of winners provides a real-time guide to places where plant-based eaters can find good options.
When you’re traveling, it’s hard to locate good vegetarian restaurants, and they often aren’t around the corner from your hotel. It’s even harder for vegan diners.
More than half of the restaurants on the list opened in the last five years, and seven opened in 2015. Also, 21 of them are vegan.
California leads the pack with the highest number of vegetarian eateries, followed by New York with 13, Philadelphia with six and Maryland with four.
Some are old favorites, such as Moosewood in Ithaca, N.Y., which led the way when it opened in 1973. Others are newer, such as plant-based Vedge in Philadelphia, which recently opened a V Street bar too.
Below are the California restaurants that made the cut. Check out the full list — with reviews, addresses and menus you can click on — at OpenTable’s Top Vegetarian & Vegan Friendly Restaurants in the U.S.
