SoCal ski resorts: Mountain High opens today, Snow Summit up next

Mountain High ski resort opens Tuesday for Southern California skiers and snowboarders who want to get a jump on Thanksgiving.

The ski resort near Wrightwood reports its snow-making machines have created a foot of new snow over the past few days. Still, the opening means one lower-mountain lift and trail that accesses intermediate terrain will be available to access intermediate terrain.

Mountain High ski area says it plans to have a top-to-bottom run open by Dec. 3. Early season lift tickets this week will cost $45 for adults and young adults and $25 for children 7 to 12 years old.

It will be open 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Bear Mountain and Snow Summit resorts in Big Bear Lake plan to open this week too.

Snow Summit will open for the season starting Wednesday with top-to-bottom skiing. Early season lift tickets cost $45 for adults, $38 for young adults and $18 for children.

It will be open 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

Sister resort Bear Mountain will be open 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday with just one or two chair lifts operating, according to its website. The resort plans to reopen Dec. 6 and 7 before opening daily Dec. 12.

Early skiing at Bear Mountain will provide access to intermediate and advanced terrain only. Lift tickets are $45 for adults, $38 for young adults and $18 for children, the same as Snow Summit.
