Fatal Attraction: 5 of 5 stars

A classic movie is one that gets under our skin, that resonates in the culture, that becomes a cultural catchphrase.

Twenty-two years after its release, everybody knows what a Fatal Attraction is. Glenn Close saw to that.

It was just a little workplace flirtation, a little dalliance with a sexy, assertive woman (Close). The wife ( Anne Archer) doesn’t suspect anything. Where’s the harm? Aside from a little guilt, what could be the consequences?

But Dan Gallagher ( Michael Douglas) must have had his head stuck in the ‘70s to let himself take a tumble with Alex Forest (Close). These were the ‘80s, now, the Age of AIDS. And the big fat metaphor in Adrian Lyne’s nightmarish sex thriller was that you dally, you die. Or someone you love dies.
