Want to go leaf-peeping this weekend? 4 places in California not to miss

Fall hasn't vanished yet, even with the sprinkling of snow and rain this week in Mono County in the Eastern Sierra. The ski resort town of Mammoth Lakes joins the fall color lineup with a golden glow of trees along Mammoth Creek, according to CaliforniaFallColor.com.
Mammoth Creek/Mammoth Lakes
Photographer Josh Wray shares photos of Mammoth Creek where changing aspens brought yellow and gold to the water's edge this past week. You'll find this stretch of color near the intersection of Highway 203 and US 305.
Go now before the leaves fade. By the way, Mammoth Mountain ski area plans to open Nov. 11.
Conway Summit
This is the color that just won't give up. Many aspens have peaked at this 8,000-foot summit, but there are others that are still yellow and lime, and have yet to reach their full color, according to the fall color website. Conway Summit is on Highway 395 north of Mono Lake.
June Lake Loop
The June Lake area north of Mammoth Lakes is near peak, but many aspens are still green and have yet to turn. This is a good bet (check out dawn at Silver Lake on the loop, above) for this weekend and next week. Of course, all this depends on whether the winds come and the weather shifts.
Lundy Canyon
Higher elevations have already peaked in this quiet canyon off Highway 395 but there's plenty to see lower down. "There is so much lime in the lower forest along Lundy Canyon Road, that it should last another week to two," CaliforniaFallColor.com says.
