Hawaii: SUV, parking, breakfast part of Hyatt Maui’s $379 family deal
Parents who are heading for Maui this year may like the extras that come with this Hawaiian family vacation package: an SUV rental, breakfast, parking and two-for-one tickets to cultural events. It’s available at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa in Lahaina until December.
The deal: The Ultimate Maui Family Vacation is priced for a two-adult, two-child family and starts at $379 a night, plus tax and resort fee. It sounds high, but if you want pools and beach time and are going to rent a car or go to a luau, this package might be a money- and time-saver.
Here’s what’s included:
-- Hertz SUV daily rental and self-parking ($16 a day) at the resort;
-- Breakfast buffet for two adults and two children, which goes beyond the usual “kids-eat-free” option;
-- Two-for-one tickets for the resort’s Drums of the Pacific Luau ($95 for adults, $65 for children);
-- Two-for-one tickets to the Tour of the Stars program, an hour-long stargazing program (usually $25 for adults, $15 for kids);
-- One free children’s ticket with paying adult for the resort’s Submarine Adventure, Lanai Snorkel or Dolphin Watch Excursion.
When: It’s good until Dec. 20.
Tested: I checked on availability and found the random dates Aug. 24-27 priced at $379 a night, excluding $30 resort fee per night and taxes.
I made a rough calculation for three days of SUV rental, parking and breakfasts for four. It came to around $600 (car rental costs vary depending on when you go) for the August getaway. That leaves about $537 or $179 a night for the room rate alone.
