Ojai: Mother-daughter (or son) discount at the Oaks spa

The all-inclusive spa the Oaks at Ojai has a post-holiday deal in January that works for those eager to get going on healthy New Year’s resolutions or those who want to spend more time with Mom. The inn that emphasizes fitness and relaxation offers 40% off the cost of a stay for a daughter or son who shares a room with her or his mother.

The deal: This offer is geared toward older children; kids have to be at least 16 to stay at the resort. The Oaks includes low-cal meals, snacks, a choice of more than a dozen daily fitness classes, evening programs and other activities. The setting for this spa is superb, off the winding Highway 33 and into the cozy town of Ojai. Also, no smoking and no cellphone use in common areas.

Here’s how this deal works: Midweek stays are cheapest, and a two-night minimum is required. It costs $199 a night for Mom ($209 on weekends) and $119 per night for each daughter or son ($125 on weekends). These prices exclude tax and service fees.

When: The offer is good from Jan. 1-noon Jan. 13.

Tested: I called (no online reservations) to check on the deal and found availability for Jan. 6 and 7 at the weekend rate. The savings here are on the cost of daughter and/or son who shares the room.
