Your Scene: Kruger National Park in South Africa

What do you think he’s making? A straw hat? Maybe a basket or an elaborate table setting? If you guessed a roof, you’d be right. On a 2010 trip to Kruger National Park in northeastern South Africa, Los Angeles Times reader Joanna Hidalgo shot this photo of a man building a thatched roof.

The scene that Hidalgo captures has a rural feel to it, but then Kruger National Park is a thoroughly wild place. The park is 7,523 square miles of flora, wildlife and archeological sites, some of which date back to the Stone Age.
