California: Is this Hollywood’s big Moment? New hotel hopes so
The Moment sounds like a name someone in a movie would make up for a hotel. But it’s the real name of a small boutique hotel scheduled to open early next year that’s part of that new Hollywood that keeps springing up from old haunts.
The Moment, which is scheduled to open Feb. 1, is an old hotel that’s been gutted and remade into a small hotel with 39 rooms and one suite. (If you go there now, you’ll still see construction fencing, a spokesman tells me by email.) It used to be the unremarkable Sunset Inn & Suites at 7370 Sunset Blvd., across the street from the Hollywood Guitar Center.
What’s the chance of this having a high hip factor? I’m thinking good, given that its operated by Broughton Hotels, the company based in Newport Beach that owns 14 properties in California, including the Spanish Garden Inn in Santa Barbara, the historic Georgian Hotel in Santa Monica and the Morgan near Hearst Castle at San Simeon, Calif.
In what could become a go-to hangout, the hotel will open the Moment Deck & Bar, a 2,000-square-foot deck with views of the Hollywood Hills. Rooms, according to a hotel statement, will be painted with “accent walls” in orange, green or purple, and start at $199 a night.
No photos yet of the unfinished project, but a rendering of the exterior (above) suggests a kind of contemporary take on Midcentury Modern. Stay tuned for more on this new hotel.
