Palm Springs: When were you born? That’s the cost of the room
The Westin Mission Hills Resort & Spa in Rancho Mirage, Calif., has a deal you’ve likely heard before: an extra night or two at a price determined by the year you were born. I’ve written about deals like this in the past, but just because it’s been done before doesn’t mean you won’t save -- whether you go during the heat of summer or the cool of late fall.
The deal: The birth-date rate is good for a second or third night, and guests must have valid proof of ID to show when they check in. Use the code “NBR” when making a reservation by phone; “PAYAGE” when booking online.
When: The offer is good through Dec. 31, based on availability.
Tested: I checked for summer dates, knowing those would be cheaper because of the off-season (high temperatures) in the Palm Springs area. I found a room available for $159 a night plus tax and daily resort fee of $27. For me, a second night with the birth-date offer would bring the average room price to about $100 a night.
