Big Bear Lake: Now you can ‘flyboard” across the water
You can now soar above Big Bear Lake like Iron Man, thanks to Action Aqua Flight. The company is offering half-hour flyboarding sessions above the lake daily between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. from now until October 2013.
Flyboarding is a new action water sport that allows people to soar above water on a flyboard that is connected to a Yamaha Waverunner by a durable industrial hose. The flyboard gets its power from the pressure created by the Waverunner, which propels the rider into the air anywhere from five to 15 feet above the water.
Proponents say the simple apparatus makes flyboarding easier for people to learn compared with other jet-pack rides. The instructor controls the height of the flyer while the flyer controls the direction. Action Aqua Flight is currently the only flyboard operator on a freshwater lake in Southern California.
