California: Wente Vineyards pairs music, wine with concert series

Music pairs well with wine, according to the folks at Wente Vineyards, one of the nation’s oldest, continuously operated family-owned wineries. That’s why the winery, near Livermore, Calif., is kicking off its 27th season of summer concerts.
Among this year’s headliners: Martina McBride (June 26), Chicago (Aug. 5) and REO Speedwagon (Sept. 12).
“The Wente Concerts bring together a mixture of artists from all genres including rock ‘n roll, country and the classics,” said Carolyn Wente, the company’s chief executive.
“We are thrilled to bring these top musicians to the Livermore Valley wine country,” she said. “We always look forward to sharing great music, delicious food and superb wine in one of the most unique concert venues in California.”
The concerts are held in a vineyard setting at the Wente Vineyards Restaurant and Event Center, near Livermore, south of the Bay Area. Seating is in a terraced amphitheater surrounded by gardens.
Patrons can choose a four-course dinner in the Restaurant at Wente Vineyards, followed by reserved, stage-front seating, a buffet-style dinner at tables of 10 on the lawn, or buy tickets that don’t include dinner. Ticket prices are $79-$299.
Other performers this summer include Smash Mouth, Sugar Ray and the Gin Blossoms (as part of the “Under the Sun,” July 10), Huey Lewis & The News (July 16), Counting Crows & The Wallflowers (July 17), Styx (July 31) and Chris Botti (Aug. 19).
