New Las Vegas aquarium exhibit dissects sea monsters
Reporting from Las Vegas — See one of the world’s largest exhibitions of preserved sea creatures when the new exhibit “Sea Monsters Revealed” opens at the Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay on Oct. 1.
A polymer preservation technique, commonly known as plastination, brings the collection of aquatic creatures to dry land. Guests can see the outside and inside of some of the sea’s inhabitants, including an 18-foot, 3,000-pound whale shark.
The exhibit also features a 15-foot-long mako shark and giant sunfish among its collection of 18 full-body sea creatures. Find 150 individual organs and smaller specimens such as tropical fish, crustaceans and octopuses.
The exhibit, next to the aquarium, runs through October 2016.
Tickets are $5 for guests who buy a ticket to Shark Reef Aquarium and $12 for the “Sea Monsters Revealed” exhibition only.
