Reporting from Las Vegas — Kabuki makes its debut on the Strip in August when “Fight with a Carp” performs for three nights on a stage over the Fountains at Bellagio.
Massive animations and water choreography are all part of this show known as “Koi Tsukami” or “Fight with a Carp” performed by Japanese actor Ichikawa Somegoro. An enormous fish and turbulent sea are projected onto a screen over the Fountains of Bellagio during the epic battle scene.
The 165-foot stage constructed inside Lake Bellagio showcases this free, 30-minute production, which will run Aug. 14-16.
The story itself features two actors, with Somegoro performing as a man who falls in love with a woman who is really a carp. She turns into a woman to get revenge on humans, who killed her carp fiancé.
The half-hour shows take place at 9:15 p.m. on Aug. 14, and 9:15 and 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 15 and 16.
The Bellagio also has art installations by Japanese sculptor Masatoshi Izumi and the resort’s first-ever Japanese-inspired display at Bellagio’s Conservatory and Botanical Gardens.
